Navy Veteran Barry Wilmore Named Commander of Boeing's Starliner CFT Mission

Wilmore is a Veteran of Two Spaceflights and Has Accumulated 178 Days in Space

Navy veteran Barry "Butch" Wilmore has been named the commander of Boeing's first Starliner Crewed Flight Test (CFT) mission. Wilmore was selected as a NASA astronaut in 2000 and has since accumulated 178 days in space over two spaceflights.

A Seasoned Astronaut with a Wealth of Experience

In his previous spaceflights, Wilmore served as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Atlantis STS-129 mission in 2009 and as a flight engineer on the International Space Station Expedition 41/42 mission in 2014/2015. During his time on the ISS, Wilmore conducted six spacewalks, totaling over 38 hours.

Wilmore's wealth of experience and expertise will be invaluable in leading the upcoming Starliner CFT mission. The mission aims to test the capabilities of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft in preparation for operational missions to the International Space Station.
