Argentina Snatch Dramatic Draw in Olympics Opener
Late Goal Levels Match Against Morocco
Argentina scored a last-minute goal in injury time to salvage a 1-1 draw against Morocco in the opening match of the 2024 Olympics football tournament.
The game kicked off at Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Etienne on Wednesday, and Argentina took an early lead in the 16th minute thanks to a goal from star forward Lionel Messi. Morocco fought back, however, and equalized in the 65th minute through a goal from Sofiane Boufal.
The match looked set to end in a draw, but Argentina had other ideas. In the sixth minute of injury time, Messi played a pass to substitute Lautaro Martinez, who fired home from close range to give Argentina a dramatic victory.
The win gives Argentina a valuable three points in Group B, while Morocco will have to settle for one point from their opening match.
