Blake Fielder-Civil Expresses Remorse for Past Mistakes
"I Made Mistakes, but I Didn't Cause Her Death"
In a recent interview, Blake Fielder-Civil, the ex-husband of the late Amy Winehouse, opened up about his feelings on her passing and his role in her life. Fielder-Civil admitted to making mistakes during their relationship, including assaulting a bartender in 2007, but he maintains that he did not cause Winehouse's death.
"I feel to be honest that I'm the only person within that story that's affected by it," Fielder-Civil said. "I've been locked up, I've been beaten up. I've had to live with this for ten years. Is it fair? Is it right? I don't know."
Fielder-Civil and Winehouse were married for two years before their divorce in 2009. Their relationship was tumultuous, and both parties struggled with substance abuse. Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning in 2011 at the age of 27.
In the years since Winehouse's death, Fielder-Civil has been in and out of prison. He has also struggled with addiction, but he is now clean and sober.
"I'm not going to sit here and say I'm a victim," Fielder-Civil said. "I made mistakes. But I didn't cause her death."
